The tool provides a clear picture of the market situation in pharmaceutical market, such as the number of patients or the usage of competing products.

The data provided by Patient Dynamics is aggregated and based on the purchase data of reimbursable medications from the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela).
-Information is available from all regions of Finland e.g. KYS Specific catchment area (ERVA) and Keski-Suomi wellbeing services county. This enables targeting of resources and actions regionally, notes Medaffcon’s Market Access Specialist & Analyst, Timo Karvinen.

The adoption of new diabetes medications in Finland was active between 2012 and 2019, according to an RWE (Real World Evidence) study published in May 2024. The study was conducted by Medaffcon in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Sanofi.
In the coming years, breakthroughs in neurological and psychiatric drug research are expected to change treatment practices and significantly improve patients’ quality of life. Medaffcon is contributing to this development by conducting, for example, RWE studies (Real World Evidence).
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in Finland, with a particularly poor prognosis for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It is often diagnosed at an advanced stage when treatment options are limited. A recently published retrospective registry-based real-world evidence (RWE) study on KRAS-mutated NSCLC patients in Finland addressed this issue.

Timo’s long experience in pharma industry in analytics, marketing and sales gives him a good understanding of the operation of pharmaceutical companies. Timo holds a MSc in Food Economics and Marketing. Market Access and Health economic analyses are new development areas for Timo. In his previous role Timo developed analytical services for pharmaceutical companies.
Timo is inspired about supporting and helping decision making with data. “Data provides a solid foundation for decisions. Data acquired and analyses carried out should be grounded on the decisions made based on them.” Developing new things and overcoming challenges gives Timo energy at work.
Timo believes, that in the future data will be collected and combined from more sources than before. Evaluating effectiveness will be important in decision making in health care and more comprehensive health economic analyses will be needed.

Tomi Vahevaara started working at Medaffcon in January 2017 as a Sales Director. He has been working in the pharmaceutical industry for over 35 years. Therefore, he has gained wide-ranging experience in international expert and managerial positions within the innovative pharmaceutical industry. Before joining Medaffcon, Tomi worked for ten years as the Managing Director of Eli Lilly for Finland, the Baltic States, and Poland.
Tomi has solid and wide-ranging expertise in different positions in the pharmaceutical field and is well connected in the entire health industry network. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Mutual Insurance Company for Pharmaceutical Injury Indemnities and as a Board Member in the Finnish Co-operative for Pharmaceutical Injury Indemnities. Tomi is particularly interested in the significant economic and investment opportunities for Finland and those companies working in the Finnish health industry.
